During the earlier stages of KeyMod development, we were exploring two related ideas: how small we could make the hardware and how it could simplify command-line work.
This short development demo shows an early compact KeyMod PCB prototype together with Compose & Send, a feature that is now part of KM Pro in the KeyCmd app.

What Does Compose & Send Do?
Typing a long command or script manually on a target computer can be slow and error-prone, especially when the target system does not offer a convenient way to copy and paste text.
With Compose & Send, you can:
-
Prepare or paste the text on your phone.
-
Review it before sending.
-
Confirm the operation in KeyCmd.
-
Send it to the active text field or terminal on the target computer through KeyMod.
To the target computer, KeyMod behaves like a standard USB keyboard. The text is delivered as keyboard input rather than through a clipboard, file transfer, or network connection.
This means the target computer does not need additional drivers or Wi-Fi access.
Where Can It Be Useful?
Compose & Send can be helpful when working with:
-
Raspberry Pi and other development boards
-
Server maintenance terminals
-
Recovery and setup environments
-
Repeated configuration commands
-
Commands containing symbols that are easy to mistype
-
Devices where normal cross-device copy and paste is unavailable
Instead of entering every character again, you can prepare the content on your phone, check it carefully, and send it when ready.
A Few Things to Check Before Sending
Because the content is transmitted as keyboard input, make sure that:
-
The correct terminal or text field is selected.
-
The target device uses the expected keyboard layout.
-
You have reviewed the command before confirming it.
-
You test potentially destructive commands before using them on an important system.
Longer blocks of text may also take a little more time to enter because KeyMod is reproducing the input as keystrokes.
About the Hardware Shown in the Video
The small PCB shown in this video was an earlier KeyMod development prototype. Its appearance may differ from the current hardware design, but it reflects one of our continuing goals: keeping KeyMod compact enough to carry anywhere while still making it comfortable and practical to use.
What would you use Compose & Send for? Would you prefer KeyMod to be as small as possible, or slightly larger and easier to handle?
We would love to hear your thoughts.
